Understanding the difference between Personal and Private Information

What you should disclose, what to do when you are not sure.

For example: Why disclose your phone number on FB – your friends will already have it, others can ask you for it.

Information, misinformation, disinformation and satire

This is difficult, because the younger you are the more likely you are to believe what is on-screen / comes from an adult

Beware of attachments from unfamiliar sources.

Bullying, what to do if you are being bullied or your friend is being bullied. 

This is more likely to involve girls (but it happens to both girls and boys)

It can be serious, it could be anonymous, which can make it more scary.   (having 5000 friends does not help)

This should involve notifying a responsible adult – a teacher (or a specific teacher at the school) should be nominated

The many types of virus – mainly for computers, also for phones

Be wary of opening attachments from unknown sources

Phishing and Hacking explained

People / companies collecting information, getting to know you as a friend

They often use quizzes – think before you answer and what you disclose on social media

Ideally one (or more) teachers need to understand this subject. It is not about IT, it is about supporting young people as they get bombarded from the internet and grow-up into modern life.
