Have you ever posted something by mistake?
You tap post. Your heart sinks. Sound familiar?
It happens to everyone — a photo meant for one person, a comment posted to the wrong group, something private that just went public. That moment of panic is one of the most common experiences of being online.
But here is something most students don’t think about until it’s too late.
Someone is always watching
Right now, employers check Facebook before they hire. It is standard practice — HR departments are trained to look at a candidate’s social media history before offering a job. Universities do it too. One photo, one comment, one post from years ago can change a decision about your future.
Ask yourself honestly: would your future employer approve of everything on your profile today?
Two things to do right now
Delete it fast. On Facebook, tap the three dots on your post and choose Delete. On Telegram, hold the message and choose Delete for Everyone. Act immediately — most people are not watching their feed every second, so speed matters.
Check your privacy settings today. Go to Facebook Settings and make sure your posts default to Friends, not Public. A public post can be seen by anyone in the world — including people you have never met. This takes five minutes. Do it now.
Before you post anything — ask 3 questions
Before you tap post, ask yourself: would my teacher be happy to see this? Would my parents be comfortable? Would a future employer approve?
If the answer to any of those is no — don’t post it.
The internet has a long memory. Protecting your future starts today.
